Pat was referred to Lancashire Mind's coaching team by Fleetwood Job Centre. The team offer free 1:1 sessions to people aged over 50, as part of a project called Age of Opportunity. Lee Coxon who who worked for the team, explains how these sessions have made a huge difference to Pat.

When Pat came in for her first appointment, using her walking stick and approaching very slowly, she was struggling to do anything due to her disability and her anxiety levels, however she had been assessed as ‘fit for work’. Pat felt like everything she was saying was falling on deaf ears and needed support to progress and make a difference within her life.

“I have tried to get people to listen to me, however they only seem to want me to find a job, they don’t seem interested in my wellbeing and my mental health is being affected by this.”

Lee identified that to move forward, Pat needed:

  • Support with financial situation
  • Support with anxiety and stress
  • Reduction of loneliness
  • Increase in her mental wellbeing

Over 30 sessions later Lee has helped Pat by increasing her monthly income by over £600 due to getting benefits she didn’t know she was entitled to and reduced her stress levels in relation to her debts - as these are now under control. Additionally, Pat has also increased her emotional wellbeing through the support of a project specialist partner.

Although Pat does still have some ongoing issues, she has come on a great deal since Lee began to support her and could not be more thankful.

“I feel much more financially stable and I am glad that Lee took the time to listen to me and offer me the support I needed, not force me to do things I didn’t need.”
