Bounce Forward with Heyhouses Primary School

Heyhouses Story

What young people from Heyhouses Endowed C. E. Primary School are saying about mental health and resilience.

At Lancashire Mind, we believe that teaching young people about mental health is just as important as physical education or literacy. Thanks to our Bounce Forward programme, children across Lancashire are building the confidence, tools and self-awareness they need to thrive.

We recently spoke to a group of Year 5 pupils from Heyhouses Primary who took part in Bounce Forward sessions – what they shared was inspiring, honest and full of hope.

“Mental health is important because it keeps you happy and healthy.”
“It helps every part of your body – it’s the same as physical health.”

Through fun, creative and practical activities, the children explored themes like resilience, positivity, and knowing when (and how) to ask for help.

From making Positivity Glasses to designing their own “Wishes Pages”, every session gave the children a chance to reflect on how they feel, how to cope with tough times, and how to support themselves and their friends.

Bounce Forward isn’t just a programme – it’s a toolkit for life. And we’re proud to be delivering it to classrooms across Lancashire.
