Creative Minds for better mental health

Creativity connects us! It helps us express what words can’t, makes space for big feelings and brings people together.

Lancashire Mind invites you to explore how art, music, poetry, photography and storytelling can help us understand and share our mental health experiences.

Whether you’re a school, workplace, community group or individual – we want everyone across Lancashire to join us and share their creative ideas!

We wanted to create something that brings people together across Lancashire to explore mental health in a way that feels real, personal and expressive. Art, poetry, music, photography or whatever your creative voice is can be a brilliant outlet for emotions, a way to tell your story or simply a moment of calm.

You don’t have to be a professional artist (or even think you’re “creative”) to be involved in the project. It’s about using whatever tools you have to say, “this is how I feel.” Because sometimes, the best conversations start with a doodle, a lyric or a splash of colour.

So grab your pencil, pick up your phone, your paintbrush, your keyboard, your glue stick or whatever inspires you and join us in #stARTingConversations that matter.

If My Mind Could Speak…

We’ve chosen ‘If my mind could speak…’ to unite everyone under a theme.

What would your mental health say if it had a voice? What does anxiety look like? What does joy sound like? What would your creativity say if it could talk?

Creative expression ideas:
  • Poetry: expressing a feeling, a moment or a journey
  • Photography: what does your mental health look like? Mental health through a lens.
  • Music: original songs or music that reflect your wellbeing
  • Art: paint, collage, digital art, sculpture, mixed media
  • Creative writing: short stories or journaling around lived experience
  • Dance or movement: exploring mental health through physical creativity
  • Crafts: sewing, knitting, making – slow, mindful acts of creation

Creativity is one of the most powerful tools we have to support our mental health and you don’t have to be an artist to benefit.

Whether it’s painting, writing, music, photography or simply doodling your thoughts, creative expression can help reduce stress, improve mood, and make it easier to explore how we feel.
