Sana's Story: Connecting Communities
When Sana* first joined our Connecting Communities sessions, she was looking for support, understanding and a way to improve her wellbeing.
“This support has really helped me to move beyond mental limitations and feel that I am able to protect and support myself.”
Over the next two years with support from Lancashire Mind, she gained much more than that.
Through group sessions and 1-to-1 support, Sana learned practical self-help techniques, developed resilience and built the confidence to make positive changes in her life. She began setting healthy boundaries, meeting new people and challenging the anxiety that had previously held her back.
Now she describes feeling more able to support herself, with improved mental health, greater confidence and a renewed sense of independence.
"I was so thankful for the support I received, and it made an immense difference to my mental health. It helped me move beyond my limitations and feel able to protect and support myself."
Connecting Communities
Mental health and wellbeing support for South Asian communities.
Our Connecting Communities project is designed for South Asian communities across Pendle and Burnley, with culturally sensitive wellbeing workshops. Through this project, Lancashire Mind is working with South Asian communities to support people aged 16+ to overcome barriers and challenges to achieve positive mental health and wellbeing.
“I learned a great deal through these sessions, including self help techniques and ways to build resilience.” (Sana)
One of the milestones she’s most proud of? Being able to travel alone – something that once felt impossible.
“I developed new perspectives and no longer withdrew from meeting new people. I put strong boundaries in place and felt my mental health and confidence improve significantly after attending 1-to-1 sessions. My anxiety reduced to a manageable level, and I was even able to travel alone.”
Stories like Sana’s remind us that mental health support isn’t just about helping people through difficult moments. It’s about empowering people to build confidence, develop new skills and create lasting positive change in their lives.
